RCI Doors™ installs dock levelers and dock plates for commercial and industrial facilities throughout North and South Carolina. Whether you’re building a new dock bay from scratch, replacing worn-out equipment, or upgrading an existing dock to improve performance and safety, our AAADM-certified technicians handle the full scope — supply, installation, and commissioning — so your dock is operational, safe, and compliant from day one.
A properly installed loading dock bay is more than just a leveler. Each component works together to create a safe, efficient, and weatherproof dock environment. Here’s what a complete dock bay installation from RCI Doors™™ includes — whether you’re building from scratch or upgrading piece by piece.
The primary opening. Sectional steel doors are most common in commercial dock applications; rolling steel doors suit high-cycle or space-constrained bays. RCI Doors™ installs and services both.
The mechanical bridge between the dock floor and the trailer floor. Hydraulic levelers offer push-button operation and long-term reliability; mechanical levelers offer a lower upfront cost. The right choice depends on your traffic volume and budget.
The weatherproofing barrier around the dock opening. Dock seals compress against the trailer sides and top for a tight seal; dock shelters frame the opening and accommodate more trailer size variation. Both protect product, workers, and climate-controlled environments from the elements.
The safety device that prevents trailer creep or accidental departure while a forklift is crossing the leveler. A mechanical or powered hook engages the trailer’s ICC bar, keeping the truck locked to the dock throughout the loading cycle. OSHA guidelines strongly recommend vehicle restraints at active dock bays.
The bridging surface between the dock face and the trailer floor. Dock plates are flat bridging panels used for smaller height differentials; edge-of-dock (EOD) levelers are small fixed levelers that mount to the dock face and provide a modest range of height adjustment.
Dock leveler and dock plate installation is precision work — done wrong, it creates safety hazards, premature equipment failure, and dock downtime that costs far more than the installation itself. RCI Doors™ technicians are AAADM-certified, which is the recognized national standard for dock equipment installation and inspection. We’ve been installing dock systems for commercial and industrial facilities across North and South Carolina for 30+ years, and we stand behind every installation with an ongoing service relationship.

Benefits of Using AAADM Certified Inspectors

Automatic doors are like any piece of machinery and require proper installation and maintenance to remain reliable and safe to use. Following important standards for the installation and maintenance of automatic doors provides owners with the assurance that these doors will be safe and reliable.
Our technicians are certified through The American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers (AAADM). AAADM provides training on the standards required for safe and reliable installation and inspection of automatic doors. This ensures that each RCI Doors™ technician understands the latest standards for automatic pedestrian doors. They attend a 2-day course that includes hands-on, expert training and an exam to demonstrate their mastery of the standards.
As AAADM Certified Inspectors, we are committed to you and the safety of your customers with post-installation and annual inspections.
A standard dock leveler replacement into an existing pit typically takes a day or less per bay. New pit construction adds time depending on concrete work required. Multiple bays can often be phased to minimize disruption. RCI Doors™ provides a project timeline estimate at the time of quote.
Costs vary significantly based on leveler type (hydraulic vs. mechanical vs. air-powered), pit condition, number of bays, and whether new pit construction is required. Dock plate installation is generally less complex and lower cost than leveler installation.
Yes — RCI Doors™ provides ongoing maintenance and repair for dock levelers and dock plates we install, as well as service for existing equipment. We recommend scheduled preventive maintenance after installation to extend equipment life and maintain safety compliance. Having one contractor handle installation and ongoing service simplifies scheduling and accountability.
